Garage queen or daily driver, anytime you take a car out and drive it you are bound to end up with bug splatter on the exterior of you vehicle. You will want to remove this as quickly as possible, if left on the surface for an extended period of time you will likely end up with etching or other surface failure. The earlier you remove the debris, the easier it will be to remove. Keeping your vehicle properly protected (wax, sealant or coating) will also make bug removal much easier.
Simple steps for bug removal:
- Spray the splatter with the product of your choice (dedicated bug remover or even an all-purpose cleaner), in some cases I will spray the area first with my pressure washer to remove some of the debris or splatter prior to treating the area with a product (this is really personal preference)
- Let the product sit for a few minutes to break down and soften the debris on the surface
- Use a sponge, like the DI Bug Sponge or Tuf Shine Scrub-All No Scratch Sponge to lightly scrub the area
- Rinse the surface clean with your hose or pressure washer
- Proceed to your standard two-bucket method wash or your wash method of preference
