Porter Cable 7424 XP Starter 5.5" Kit Reviews
Customer Reviews
I already had a nice buffer but it was 20 years old and extemely heavy to use. A Milwaukee Rotary with wool pads is a nice buffer that I have always used on the boats but, I wanted a lighter version and one that I could not ruin my truck finish as well as the cars I was going to be doing. Well, This Porter Cable 7424 was the ticket. I not only have used it on the car/trucks but also a couple of boats that were NOT badly oxidized and what a charm to use. I paired it up with the Lake and Country pads both flat and CCS and I am truly happy with the outcomes. Pick one up....you're be happy too!!
Great buffer that offers great performance and piece of mind for not destroying your paint. This thing will never damage your paint. How? The PC 7424 basically has an internal clutch if you will. How well does this work at saving your paint? There are plenty of demonstrations out there of people showing how paint safe this buffer is with the most aggressive pads and compound polishes with no damage. You don't have to worry about damaging your paint with this buffer. Now, just because this is paint safe doesn't mean it can't remove scratches and imperfections. You can use this bad boy for cutting/compounding, light polishes, or finishing polish. I use this on my own cars as part of the prep work before applying a ceramic coating. You can remove some deep scratches and imperfections in the paint with the right cutting polish/compound and pad. I recommend that you pick up some lack county yellow, orange, white and black pads. This will cover all the uses you will come across from heavy cutting/compounding, to medium, light, and just finishing polish. Polish wise I recommend Meguiar's M105 and M205, or you can do Gtechniq's P1 nano polish. Now go ahead and buy this puppy, you have read this far into my review because you are thinking about buying it, so buy it...do it...it's not peer pressure it's just your turn.
Bought this as a first polisher/buffer. It works well! I was able to remove about 70% of the swirls on my Chrysler 300C with an orange pad and Griot's Fast Correcting Cream. A bit of vibration and some noise, but nothing bad.
Kit worked out perfect for me. Polished my 1 series BMW with Meguiar's 105/205 polish and it looks like new again. Also ordered an extra set of pads since you should change them out at least once while polishing a car. The only flaw I found was the speed dial seems a bit touchy, between 5 and 6 it speeds up quite a bit. Also it's a little loud but I still love it.
A great starter polisher for anyone. The reason we bought it was to teach people on. Good results and will perform even better when you use a good backing plate and replace the grease in the polisher with something of better quality.
Great kit. Takes all the guess work and worry out of buffing. Easy clean up and changing pads is quick. Hope the pads have a long life.
The PC is awesome. You know it. Get it - or a Flex, or a Rupes. Hell get all three - you know you want 'em!
There is a reason why the PC 7424XP is so often highly recommended, it is a beast of a machine for the price. The starter kit is a great deal, especially if you select the pads you want rather than going with one of each color.
I really like this kit. I had heard some negative things about some other backing plates, but the one that comes with this seems pretty solid. Oh, remember to customize your order for the pad types you want!
