Meguiar's Ultra-Cut Compound M105 Reviews
Professional Detailer Reviews
Unlike traditional polishes that require a long working time to break down the abrasive particles, M105 utilizes ultra-hard non-diminishing abrasives that retain their size and shape throughout the polishing cycle. These abrasives are designed to cut hard and fast, and the fact that they maintain a consistent cut from start to finish means that the process goes much more quickly than traditional polishes or compounds. The end result is a heavier cut, with a finer finish, in less time! M105 is capable of removing 1200 grit and finer sanding marks, scratches, acid rain etching, and severe swirls and holograms.
Another great feature of M105 is that it produces tremendous results whether you use a random orbital polisher, such as the Porter Cable 7424XP, a rotary polisher, like the Makita 9227C, or by hand. For those who own a random orbital polisher, and thought that you weren't able to achieve heavy correction without stepping up to a rotary...think again! You can achieve great (and safe) results with a PC7424XP, an orange pad, and a bottle of M105.
The M105/M205 combination from Meguiar's is capable of heavy paint correction while finishing with a high level of depth and gloss, and it does it in less time than traditional polishes. It does require a different technique than you may be used to, and it may take you a few times to get the system down to make it most effective. Once you've accomplished this however, you will be very pleased that you gave it a try!

Pros:
* Will cut and cut very well. 2000 grit sanding marks will disappear with ease using a Rotary polisher. A DA will require more work, but it will remove the marks with a heavy cut pad.
* Inexpensive and long lasting.
* Works better than 3M 36060 with less product (my opinion)
* EASY to work with and finishes very well.
Cons:
* Dust
* Dust
* More dust
I've used this on various colors and various degrees of wet sanding marks and it always comes through. On darker paint and using microfiber pads I've found that it will leave hazing that can be seen, so do not let it fool you that it does not leave any hazing. This is pretty much a go-to along with 3M in any body shop, but it is easy to use by anyone with any level of experience.

Great cutting polish. I use this predominantly for correction prior to applying a ceramic coating as part of the prepping phase. The wax is very easy to work with. You can use this by hand with a quality hand pad, or with a buffer. This polish makes quick work of swirl marks, deeper scratches, cleaning up head lights and bringing neglected paint back to a shockingly better state. Whether you are a pro, an avg joe into detailing or a newbie this is a must have. Hands down one of my favorite detailing products. The only negative thing I can say about it is that when working with the polish for a while things can get dusty, but that is so easy to clean up with a soft towel (MF2 or MF3 towel).

Works great on a rotary buffer or a DA polisher. Cuts very well and leaves a very nice polished finish with my Flex 3401 DA using a Lake Country 6.5 Inch CCS foam pad. I spray a little water on the surface on the last pass so it wipes off easier.
Worked flawlessly in removing some horrific swirl marks on my BMW 135i. I used it with a orange Lake Country pad on a Porter Cable 7424xp polisher. Seemed to be most effective with the polisher speed almost all the way up and using a lot of pressure. Polish is almost idiot proof since it never caused any marring, hazing, or paint damage no mater how hard I polished it. I followed it up with the M205 polish on a white pad as recommended and it really brought out the shine.
Awesome compound. Orange foam or microfiber will get the party started. Then switch to M205 on a black foam pad. Works amazing!
I would buy this over and over. Easy to use. Cuts well. Gets dusty, but it's super easy to remove. I use this with my Meguairs MF cutting disk. Swirls don't stand a chance.

Works great on neglected finishes, then follow with Meguiars 205 for a mirror smooth finish. Excellent product!!
Perfect compound I have been in the body and paint business for over 50 years and I have used a lot of stuff but this is great will buy again
Had some bird droppings that etched in the paint of my new BMW 340i Used the M-105 to get the etching out then followed with the polish. Worked like a charm car paint is in perfect condition. What a relief.
Does a great job with my porter cable and flex. Great product!
Might dust a lot, but man this stuff chops away on some paint. Rotary cutting this stuff really works well!
I don't know why I didn't use this sooner, combine it with a micro fiber cutting pad, and depending on the paint type it can sometimes be used as a one step! Finishes great considering the abrasive levels. Use M205 to follow up and you will have a great finish. You cannot go wrong with this product, I've already reordered more!
What else can I say, one of the BEST one step polishes out there! M105. Pair it with 205 and I put the results against any other combo out there! By the way, Detailed Image you guys are the best at giving deals for us do-it-yourself detailers.
I used this with my 2nd generation Griots Garage 6" RO, I have the stock backing plate and the older orange polish pads, I also just got their mf fast finishing pad. I tried it on both and it definitely brought out the shine in my car but as far as tiny scratches it didn't touch it. About the only thing it removed is light swirls from towel drying etc.. I tried it with both pads and followed up with 205 which I again tried with both pads. Honestly I'm thinking it must be my RO because there were no scratches removed. I didn't find it bad to work with though, as far as removing the dried on remains. A good MF and a spritz of speed shine or the equivalent does the trick if you have heavy spots. I found it best to do what they say by starting off heavy and then go light and it basically removes everything. Think I might try a different backing plate or get a Rupes.
Works well but difficult to work with. It seems to dry up almost right away. I am in a dry climate. A light spritz of water brings it back briefly, but can cause it to sling little white spots all over. The white spots are extemely difficult to remove, almost like paint. A real pain in the neck,
1967 T Bird Black. My experience never had any good results. Wet sanded entire car with 2000 grit. using Meguiars oscillating buffer white foam pad. First time using this product. First pass no pressure on buffer, the cut of this product was by far more then what I expected, not one swirl mark, not one burn, the shine is incredible. This is the easiest product to use, you don't need a lot for a 2 foot square area. There is also dollar value to take into consideration. Detailed Image website helped me make choices resulting in in best value, along with great resuls
As a 2nd try newbie who needed more cut then my 1st try with ultimate compound, M105 with a rotary and orange medium cut pad was a learning experience for real! It splattered , it dried while I tried to work it in, but when I used less product and cleaned and changed pads often I was able to correct a lot. Followed with M205 then Menzerna 4000. My 2011 looks BRAND NEW. I will be trying LC purple foamed wool and yellow cut pads now that I feel comfortable with a rotary.
A very good product
I feel 3M compound has a lot of work to do to catch up with Meguiars. If you want your car or truck to look 20 times better then it did when it was new, Meguiars M105 and M205 is what you need.
Great cutting ability a lot of dusting from the compound Has a lot of haze so IPA it and follow up with a good polish m205 is ok it's rival is menzerna fg 400 has more gloss and less dust but mequiars does the job use a microfiber cutting pad for much better results
It works better than expected; I did not have big expectations about this , being only 9 USD and a Meguiar's product, but it is excellent. I had some deep scratches on my 335i bumper, all gone now! If you have a random orbital sander/polisher, it works great ( harder to do by hand ).
As a professional paint specialist I highly recommend the 105 compound to remove defects in the paint. It works well with the buffer and the orbital polisher. you will still need to finish with a good quality polish and the orbital to remove all the swirl marks.
Good stuff, requires a fair amount of initial pressure with an orbital, until it breaks down, then finishes nice.
This products works great. It will cut through those scartches and swirls and leave a great finish. Some hazing may occur on certain paints, so best to follow up with the M205, which I have yet to use but own.

One of the best compounds I have ever used. Pair it with the appropriate pad for the job, and it will produce great results. Very effective at removing swirls, and light to medium scratches, water spots and so on. While the product works extremely well with a rotary, you can get great results using a DA and an appropriate pad for what you need. Some other compounds aren't nearly as effective when used with a DA, but 105 is. Only issue is that it does tend to produce some dust if you apply to much product, and if you don't keep your pad clean. In fact, if you use a lot of product or don't clean your pad regularly, you'll probably have dust and splatter everywhere. That, honestly, I've found other compounds to act about the same way. A really great compound.
I was in a small sideswipe accident a while back, leaving white marks on my fender and black painted wheel. The guy had no insurance and the adjuster told me it was probably going to buff out very easy. I picked this stuff up and went to town with my pc. This did the job, and everyone thought I had the damaged area repainted.
Used this with my rotary and a LCC HT Orange pad to clean up the finish on my 09 Mustang, it had some swirls and some wet sanding marks that the bodyshop didn't buff all the way out. The Megs worked great, lots of working time and it finshed out beautifully.
Used this on a 2006 328 that had never been clayed, or waxed. The paint was getting a flat look to it and it had some visible scratches as well as spider swirls all over the car. The 105 did a great job of removing most of the unattended to damage before using Super Finish Polish SF 4000 (PO106FA)

I love it. Used it as a complete noob, and had no problems at all. Well, I may have slung the stuff all over my garage once or twice, but that was totally my lack of experience. After I got it under control, this stuff almost effortlessly corrected years of neglect from my '03 bmw's previous owner. Followed it up with some m205 and I was home free!
This stuff seems to work very, very well for paint correction. I paired it with a LC orange pad and PC on the horizontal surfaces of my car, which was had very limited swirls/hazing. It worked great, as I cannot see any remnants under natural sunlight or with a flashlight. I would recommend reading the entry in the detailing blog about how to properly prep the pad, etc. I think I flashed a lot of compound unnecessarily.
The real test will be this coming week on a heavily swirled MB CLK, on which I will use Surbuf pads. I suspect I will be able to greatly improve the look of the car.

Fantastic compound. As many of the other reviews state, M105 finishes down almost as well as a finer polish while accomplishing a tremendous amount of correction. Used it with a yellow pad and a wool pad depending on cut needed and was thrilled with both results. Used 3M fine finish to finish it off. I'll definitely be trying M205 next though.
Well I put away the wool pad and gave this stuff a try with the Surbuf pads and I am glad I did. I had a customer with some water damage on hood mixed with concrete. I hit it with some acid and went with the 105 and a Surbuf pad. The nice thing is that you can use it with the Porter Cable so you wont get sling all over the place like you do with the rotary. Use the load pad instructions and off you go. Took the water spots off and paint felt like butter. Vehicle was black, next step was the 205 meguiars. Used another Surbuf pad with the 205 to eliminate any swirls and/or holograms (even though I didnt see any). Paint looked even better, a wetness to it. Hit it next with the grape ezecreme then the wet diamond, nail polish I tell you. Paint was on a 1997 camry original paint. After I did the hood customer could not believe the water/cement stain was gone. And after seeing/feeling the paint he wants the entire car done. Its all about synergy folks.
Bought this to hit some water spot and bird dropping etching. Used with a pc DA and a green pad and it had a modest cutting rate which was good because it was my first go at machine polishing/correction. I will probably try the M105 with an orange pad next time to see if that allows the M105 to cut a bit more efficiently. It was remarkable how well it finished down to a smooth finish, but to get the gloss/depth I recommend following up with the M205.
The M105 has amazing cut and finished down extremely well on a neglected 1990 toyota truck. the color was great and was a major improvement over what it was.

Greg was nice enough to send me a bottle of this stuff, and i corrected my buddies lincoln navigator over the weekend and WOW, this cutting compound has great cutting ability, although it dusts a bit more than my liking, the ending finish is perfect, something i haven't achieved with similar CC's. i usually finish down with CG p40, maybe m205 is in my near future judging by how great of an experience i had with m105.
Well I used this product on my friends 2000 Toyota celica. It does looks better but I'm all the way pleased with results. The paint does have more shine and deeper gloss/refelctions but there are still some imperfections. I think a lot it has to do with my technique using a DA polisher. Im still new to the detailing scene. Didn't pick it up till this past summer. I know this product works I believe with experience and time I will get better results. I'm going to give it a try on my 07 civic and see what happens. I still highly recommend this product!!
Great product for use with a wool pad. It pulls out defects that no other compound can.
I used the Meg105 in conjunction with an yellow pad and random orbital. This product works quickly and produces quite a bit of dust as most compounds do. It worked great for swirls and scratches. The most impressive thing about this compound is it's "finish down" capability. It finishes, well, like a finishing polish!!! I followed up with Optimum AIO sealant/polish on a white pad with great results.
Product worked great on deeper scratches on my Audi's hard paint that I didn't seem to be able to get with Wolgang Swirl Remover. It leaves a finish that only need minor correction but It does dust quite a bit.
As a car enthusiast who enjoys working on cars and wanted to go beyond that, this product is a must for anyone who wants their paint to look fresh again. I'm not a professional detailer and I recently bought this product and my first impression was, WOW THIS IS AWESOME. When used with the correct pad and speed setting, it will remove moderate to deep scratches with a nice finish, but be careful because this product will dust quick and that's exactly how you use this product.
Product worked AWESOME!! Purchased a used car and paint was in great shape. But the inner part of the door handle had lots of finger nail scratches. M105 took it right off with not problem! Followed it with some M205 and wax, and it was good as new! Highly recommend this stuff!
Very good product, brought my 19 year old paint back from being pink to red. Took out lots of paint imperfections, and was easy to apply on/off.
Incredible. Im not a pro detailer, but an enthusiast who does my 2 cars and friends cars often. The Megs line turned what was a 3 step polish job into 2 steps. Heck, for some of my friends trucks, we just did a 1 step polish job with M105 and it finished nice enough for them that we slapped a coat of sealant on it and called it a day.
I used to use the Menzerna line, but now Im a 105 convert. The 105 on the orange pad cuts pretty well and finished pretty nicely. Im planning on picking up a cyan pad with my next order and plan on using the M105 on a cyan pad followed by M205 on a white polish pad and calling it a day. Im still keeping the Menzerna PO85RD to use on a black pad on jet black cars, but for my wifes RAV4, friends trucks and camrys and silver Lexus, the M105/205 combo is a fantastic 2 step combo which gets out scuff marks and scratches and finishes fantastic!

M105 works GREAT, especially in conjunction with the M205 polish. Used my Porter Cable XP orbital polisher with small dabs of M105 on a yellow pad and polished the hazy/cloudy headlights on my wife's 2004 Acura MDX. Followed up with a blue pad and M205. Total time elapsed was about 20 minutes and the headlights look BRAND NEW. Used a blue pad with M205 to polish the rest of the vehicle, and it looks just great too. I'm thrilled with the M105/M205 products. It was very gratifying to get my wife's vehicle looking that good - especially since she bought me the Porter Cable XP for Father's Day!
It worked wonders. Used this with a Yellow LC pad and PC-XP. Ordered a wool pad to try out with it next. Im sure ill see great things from that.
As a newbie detailer, I used this on my 96 Honda with a Cyan Pad, cut very easily and finished great. Looked so good I almost didn't use the finishing polish! On my '05 BMW, though, it took additional passes with the Cyan Pad to remove the heavier scratches but still got the job done. Finished both cars with M205 with the white pad and looked amazing.
Overall it was easy to use even for a newbie like myself!

I'm a newbie and I use this product along with a Porter cable polisher and got a great finish with very little effort.
This was a great product, and removed almost all of the imperfections from my paint.
this is a seriously good compound, i'm a a newbie and I use the Makita and had great finish at 1500 rpm.
This is a break through product in my opinion. Its ability to do some serious cutting work and still finish off nicely is extremely impressive. And it cuts very quickly. An excellent product that is a must have for any serious correcting work.
This stuff works wonders! just got it in and had to test it, cut through sanding scratches on headlights, clear, and even polished out heavy scratches on my wood coffee table. I can shave in the thing now!. this is my go to product for all my polishing needs wether it be wetsanding marks or RIDS
As a detailer, I frequently encounter badly damaged paints of all colors and hardness. My old standby, Meguiars Diamond Cut would require extra passes but leaves the surface hardly scarred. Is it possible that Ultra-Cut M105 can be more aggressive, but still leave the surface is similar fashion? Yes. You need to choose your pads correctly, as the foamed wool did leave mild hazing, but astonishing in it's level of cut. I recommend this to Pro Detailers for those jobs that are troubled.
