Lake Country Blue Grout Sponge Reviews
Customer Reviews
Excellent sponge for doing rinseless wash. I own 3. Has not scratched paint and been using them for over a year. I put a grit guard in bottom of bucket and clean sponge after each pass on the paint. Sponge is extremely economical.
I thought this would be extremely similar to DIY brand Sponge or Rag Company's ultra black. It's not. The foam and texture is different. This sponge has more aggressive surface and is designed for soaps (based on info I found and got from Proffesor detailer's lol) I have been using it for rinsless and haven't damaged anything but it gets stained easily and also doesn't glide on surface
works great ordered 3 more what a great buy!
I primarily purchased this sponge to perform rinseless washes on my graphene ceramic coated automobile, thus far I am extremely pleased with the sponge and the cost factor was major!!!!
Excellent sponge at a really good price - shows what the markup is on the black/gold/red sponges...
I was leary to purchase due to some reviews stating they were too hard. I compared to a brand new unused Black sponge and they are identical in terms of stiffness. no difference especially once I rinsed both new sponges and wrung out. Blindfolded I would not be able to tell which is which.

Love these sponges for rinseless washing and the price makes them a no brainer. I bought 3 so I have back ups.
I used this sponge for a rinseless wash. It's just the right size, encapsulates dirt and rinses in a bucket easily. For the price, this is a much better value and deal then the red sponge I've seen. I would definitely buy this again.
Works great, super price ..can not believe the "red" sponge is an arm and leg.. For me, this seems even better..Plus getting asap from D.I. make my foam gun happy........
This is another great product that I have purchased from Detailed Image. I use this sponge with ONR to wash my car and it works perfectly. It surprises me how the dirt always seems to leave the sponge when I put it back in the water. One time I did the exhaust tips on my car and got black on the sponge. My first thought was that I would always have black on the sponge after that. I put the sponge in the wash bucket and squeezed it out and the black was gone. This sponge is a bargain compared to that other color sponge that is made for things like ONR and way cheaper. Definitely recommended.
I used this to replace some old microfiber mitts that were due for retirement. I really enjoyed using this sponge as: 1) it carried a lot of suds, 2) the sponge tendrils did an excellent job of cleaning small crevices, and 3) it was easy to handle.
These sponges are freaking awesome and price is so great, I cut these up into 4 pieces and use on wheel faces and they have become my go to for wheels and rocker panels.
My fav sponge. Size, durability, design are the best and at sale price a certain bargain. Will always have a spare on hand for cleaning around the house too.
Mix cheaper than a certain red one and worked well to trap dirt using ONR.
This is a great sponge. I love it for front/ rear bumpers and lower areas of the car.
Has not scratched but boy does it seem like magic
Found a GREAT use for these, I first cut it up into four pieces then use on the outer face of wheels, they work awesome and are cost effective and don't scratch.
Works perfectly. Gentle on paint. Make washing very fast. I love how easily it releases dirt. It's one of my favorite car washing products.
Absolutely wrecked my finish. I decided to give these a try with Wolfgang waterless wash system. Prior to this I had been using wool mitts with ONR which get dirty fast. Never any hazing problems before. .I figured DI is selling these with their waterless packages, why not give it a shot. I'm the idiot here. These sponges are WAY TOO FIRM for any finish or anything other than wheels. My A7 is now a giant rolling hologram. Super. Looks like a full correction coming my way. They are going in the trash.
I like this sponge because it rinses out the grime and dirt better than microfiber products. It's a lot stiffer than I anticipated but it does a great job. I bought 5, and I cut some in half to to do tires and rims.
Love this sponge, I cut it into 4 pieces and use it on the outer parts ot wheels, works unbelievable and price is great.
Love this sponge, holds a lot of soap and is a great buy, so many uses even around the house. Caution you may want to buy more than one of these as you will find many uses.
Great for applying tire dressings when cut in half.
Better sponge than I expected....larger and more dense.....holds a ton of soap suds. Buy more than 3 - everyone that sees it wants one. Using one to clean baths and kitchen too. Great all around tool. Nothing like it in stores.
Great sponge I have 6 of them and will buy more. I don't know who said that using a sponge on your car wasn't good but they are paying attention to the wrong guy that wants you to use a lot of towels. And if you don't have a 60K vehicle for 5 dollars try it, I promise you you will buy more and save your towels for what they are meant for. A sponge has never damaged my paint if the vehicle is prepared first. Get the heavy dirt off first then use this with your favorite liquid. I use ONR & ONRWW and have not had 1 problem. All my towels that I spent good money for are being used for what a towel should be used for. Keep doing what these other guys are telling you so you will buy their products while I get what has been working. If you think that this will scratch your paint then you already have correction to do...
This is my go to every time and I love it. The big red sponge is over priced and for the price of one of the big red, I can get 3 of these. Now I'm going to buy 10 more to go with the 2 I have. I don't bring out the power washer as much, so ONR and this is good for me.
I was skeptical abut using a sponge for washing... I always used microfiber and sheepskin wash mitts, even when using ONR. I got the Lake Country blue grout sponge as a "freebie" with an order. I tried it out doing ONR washes my own vehicle. You can literally saturate it for heavy cleaning or wring it out for light maintenance cleaning. Used with the grit guards and two bucket method, it extends the life of your ONR solution. Try it... you'll like it!
Far too stiff. I feel like I am scratching the paint when I use it.
I use this with ONR for rinseless washes. Works very well and is much bigger than it seems. I thought it'd only be a few inches big, but it's actually twice the size of my hand, if not more.
I love the sponge. I enjoy the cleaning ability it has and that it can help me clean the cars safely. I've bought my second and think the first lasted over a year and a half with regular washing duties. One con could be that mine started losing small chunks as it aged. Not a big concern but something clean up after.
Only used it a couple of times, but love the contour and the various slits in the sponge to hold water. Time will tell if this sponge holds up, but I expect it will.
This sponge is awesome! Just like their polishing pads, you can expect great quality. It does like most of the reviews mention above, it holds lots of
suds and water and glides smoothly across the surface. It rinses out easily in the rinse bucket and it feels good in your hand, not too big not too small.

It's not a bad product, by any means... I don't know.... I just didn't feel comfortable with it. My paint wasn't in great shape to begin with, so I really can't get a good gauge about any surface scratches, etc. Used with ONR, 1 bucket, seemed to release dirt well, didn't have a TON on the car to begin with ($4.00 at my local wash to hose down w/soap and rinse w/water. No hose at home, or I would've just used that to rinse the thicker stuff off. Still, after the car wash I always have a thin layer of dirt on the car.
So, ONR, one bucket, very thorough rinsing/releasing of dirt, but the sponge is very stiff (works great around badges, I'll give that a big plus) and I always feel like there isn't enough lubricity between the foam sponge and my paint... squeaking, etc.
I'll go back to ONR, a few Eagle Edgeless MF towels soaked, used carefully until dirty, set aside, and wiped dry w/waffle weave towels. The wet MF towels feel much softer, do a great job, and don't have me worrying. Maybe I need to give the sponge another chance to break in a little, but it's also just about useless for getting into small crevices (under door handles and spoilers) and I need a MF towel for those anyway...
Like I said, not a bad product, but if this one disappeared, I wouldn't bat an eye.

This is a great sponge it really works well. I love the size of the sponge it fits perfectly in my hand!
Great sponge, used ONR method and will be sponge again when needed.
I like to use these sponges to clean the lower rocker panel area of cars as they are typically very dirty and i do not want that dirt and grit in my good wash mitts. The sponge collects dirt very well, but also releases it pretty easily in your rinse bucket. However, they do take quite a few good rinses to get all of the soap back out before drying.

A lot softer than it looks in the picture, especially when its damp. Grouts are nice for corners and edges but they probably reduce the durability of the sponge. Its decently priced so having to buy more shouldn't be a big deal.
This thing is great. It holds gallons of water and suds. my truck was fairly dirty and the sponge cleaned up very well. I used it with two buckets and grit guards. Works great!!!
Works great. Holds lots of suds and water and is excellent with a grit guard.
When I got my first DI order I was intrigued, but skeptical about the sponge. I thought there was no way it would be better than the sheepskin wash mitts, but now I'm a convert. I still use the sheepskin mitt for tight areas(grilles, etc), but the sponge holds so much more water and suds its unbelievable! It releases contaminants easily and i never worry about not having enough suds.
LC Grout sponge is an ode to the old and new. Old sponge design that creates lots of suds and absorbant. New material of grount/foam that absorbs dirt without keeping anything at the top to marr your paint. I like how it create suds at a mere squeeze. You can split these sponges so they work like other higher priced foam wash tools. These might stain from Optimum No Rinse, the best way is to split wash it with regular car soap. These are extremely resilient if you abuse them around edges, etc.
To all of you who thought like I did that this is a regular sponge. It is far from and ordinary sponge, and does an excellent job makes cleaning so much easier.
Aggressive enough to remove dirt but gentle enough to not scratch paint. Design sheds contaminants well when used with a grit guard. Overall this is the best handwash sponge I have used to date
I was never one for using a sponge, until all of the true detailers (including this site) said it was the way to go. I picked myself up a couple of these guys, and they are great. Holds a good amount of solution and doesn't seem to scratch at all. Skeptic turned believer
Good-volume sponge and dirt flushes out relatively easily. Used it with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss with good results.
one of my favorite sponge to wash the car. soft and releases dirt very well.
The Lake Country Blue Grout Sponge and Optimum ONR are like a match made in heaven. Only which the boys at DI would suggest to LC to manufacture a larger size of the sponge to facilitate cleaing of trucks, SUV's, etc.
Works great with ONR. It soaks up water really well and releases dirt very well.
Huge fan of sponges in general and despite a good design on this one I think it's too hard for my liking. Been using various popular VERY soft grout sponges and thought I'd give this a try but I worry it will marr softer paints
Easy to grip, holds lots of water/soap and releases the dirt well.
Really like this. My only problem is that I've used it for 3 washes, and it's almost completely torn in half.
Great sponge, great price works well. I'd highly reccomend it.
This sponge paired with ONR and a two bucket method with grit guard inserts is a great combination to get any car clean. I'll be purchasing these in bulk form now on.
I got rid of all my other microfiber mitts and sponges when I tried this. After a New England winter, my black vehicle was in the best shape ever using this sponge. Love it. Very safe for the finish and very easy to manage.
I would buy this again, but knowing full well that it will only last a couple of washes. The first one I had I twisted when I wrung it out and that ended up breaking the sponge in half. But if you're careful with it, it will certainly get the job done. All in all a good sponge, but I wouldn't say 'great'.
I usually use a mitt, but saw these sponges and decided to give them a try. I used this sponge with the 2-bucket method. After washing a really dirty car, my rinse bucket was filthy, the wash bucket was still clean. Great sponge.
Excellent sponge. Soft & releases dirt very well. A bit more expensive than the grout sponges you'll find at the home improvement store - but more convenient & has the slits (dirt release).
Use sponge for first time using ONR and it worked great. Very soft and the slices in it are genius.
i was very skeptical at first of grout sponges in general but after several uses i dont think i will ever wash with anything else.
Great wash media! I use it primarily for ONR-washes (90% of my washes)
Best sponge and may be my favorite wash tool. I prefer it to MF mitts I like the size and shape. For me it is not too thick. It retains soap better than anything I've ever used and makes beaucoup foam with a simple squeeze. Very easy to shed grit with Guard. I use pad cleaner spray periodically to keep as new. Buy several on sale. They wont disappoint IMO.
After reading reviews, I thought it was going to be laborious to use, but after using it with a solution of ONR, I absolutely love this thing. Fits great in my hand, I thought it looked big at first, but after using it I instantly changed my mind. The cross cut pattern also really helps out when releasing dirt from it, makes it a breeze. I highly recommend for ONR washing
Great for washing! I recommend two of them!
Nice sponge but too thick....I cut it down the middle to make it thinner....Now, I have 2 thinner sponges and they work great...
I have to agree with the review from 3/28/09, I used it this morning and it did a great job.

I used this sponge with some ONR and the 2-bucket method. It felt harder than I expected, but after washing a fairly dirty car, my rinse bucket was filthy, the wash bucket was still clean, and there were no swirls whatsoever in my paint. While I skeptical at first, this sponge did a GREAT job and is sturdy.

I think it felt a bit too heavy and big at first, but it works great and releases the dirt well. But it could be thinner.
