This completely redesigned backing plate features firm yet flexible high-density urethane foam with chamfered edges for flexibility and improved contouring over and around body panels. However, where this backing plate really shines is with the overall heat reduction. The plate's center recess cuts down on heat at the center of the backing plate, while the vertical and horizontal cooling ports cut down on heat around the exterior while delivering smoother operation, longer pad life, and better results. The G9 comes standard with a 6" backing plate, making the 5" perfect if you want to use smaller pads.
