Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun Reviews
Professional Detailer Reviews
If you do not have a pressure washer or are simply looking for a quick and easy way to add foam to your vehicle during the wash process, I highly recommend the Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun.
Customer Reviews
I should have just saved more money for a pressure washer. While the directions are fine for the dilution ratios I thought the bottle would pre-fill itself with water to begin the proper mix. I've never used a foam cannon so I didn't understand I had to fill it with water and my soap. The quality of the components are nice but if your thinking of using this as an alternative to a foam cannon with a pressure washer you might just want to consider saving up more money because I won't ever use this after I get my pressure washer setup going. I agree with all the above comments about high soap consumption and mediocre performance.
I have used this about ten times and works great. No leaks, puts out a good amount of foam, saves some time, and is more fun than two bucket alone. I ride motorcycles more than cars and it's great for the dirty lower parts. Also good for a first pass on tires, wheels, and weel wells without soiling Wash media.
Used this Foam Gun today, worked perfectly... Sturdy build, wished I had bought one sooner !
Easy set up for those days you don't want to use the pressure washer.
These spray master were requested by the staff at my local animal shelter. Staff says they "ARE THE BEST" for cleaning the kennels.
I have used this twice both times on setting E the foam soap was very good for a hose end sprayer.
A mid sized SUV used 3/4 of the bottle.
A mid sized car used 1/2 the bottle.
The foam bottle does not have a line to show how many ounces of soap you have put in. If the bottle had that then this product would be 5 stars.

Does a great job if you put a mix of 1-1 soap v water in the reservoir and use one of the higher concentration settings like D. I have had no issues and save time every wash
The tool covers the car with a thick layer of foam and really helps reduce the risk of scratching the paint. The nozzle is not very good at all though. It is very cheap and fragile and you have to be careful when you set it down. The nozzle leaks a lot now, making the tool almost useless. I can't recommend this product until they improve the nozzle.
Please note that the highest mixture setting on this gun is 1-10 which is 12 oz per gallon. Gyeon foam calls for a 1-5 mixture setting. That mixture is not attainable with this foam gun.

Fun and easy to use. Loaded it up with Chemical Guys Maxi-Suds II and coated my car with it. Easy to use, feels well-made, no leaking of water. Highly recommend!
I do like it, but the Chemical guys version is way better. It works great but unlike the Chemical Guys version the Nozzle for this one is relatively cheap. Basically a garden hose nozzle with a flimsy plastic cover. The Chemical guys Nozzle has a complete rubber coated nozzle which makes it more durable, better grip and in the event you use hot water it won't heat up like the metal one supplied with the Gilmour. All things considered it's a great Foam Gun for the cheaper price but I'd rather spend a little more for the CG one.
Love my foam gun first time user. Produces a lot of foam which reduce the chances of me making more mark on the car.
Quality product. Way more robust than the previous one I bought from wally world. Easily select different soap dilution ratios. Filled the reservoir halfway with soap, halfway with water and put it on A (lowest ratio) and I get the perfect ratio and it last for many many car washes.
This product worked so well! It is easy and produced wonderful foam to clean the car effortlessly!
I was pleasantly surprised at how great this worked! It's easy to use, produces a lot of foam and makes washing the care a pleasure! I recently purchased a brand new car and wanted to ensure that I do everything possible to keep it looking fine. It is definitely worth the money. Try it, you will like it!
Light weight, durable and easy to use.
Now this is a great car wash system. I can wash the car in record time with this gun. Functions exactly as it says. Great product

A must have product for people looking to keep their paint scratch free. I have black car and this things saves me a lot of time when washing. Simply connect to my hose and the suds come pouring out. Also, use it with a sheepskin mitt to wash the car. Overall, great product that I am glad I bought.
Awesome foamer. Its 1 of 3 in my arsenal. We use this on mobile jobs and with cg snowfoam! Love it.
Works very well, foams up the car in about 2-3 minutes. I wanted to speed up the washing process and this works just fine.
I was looking for a foam gun and found this one. We live in an area with hard water and I was worried I would not get enough suds. I get plenty of suds. I use it with a regular house water connection and hose.
I was pleased with the results after using this product the first time. Washing my vehicle seem to take less effort and I didn't need to dip my wash towel into my solution as often. Wash setup time in negatable since concentrate container hold more than one wash.

Most unhappy buyers apparently thought this would be like a pressure washer instead of just a foam producer. Choose your model and wisely choose your price and "foam on."
I will start this review by saying I have a household water softener. This is a fantastic product, absolutely worth it for the person that does not want to invest into getting a pressure washer. I used CG Glossworkz, mixed some water in with a little bit of it in the container and tried out a few of the settings. Results were incredible.
If you have hard water, you WILL see a decrease in the suds based on the hardness. I have extremely hard water for my area and I'm still VERY satisfied with how much foam I got using Maxi Suds II. I did two full size trucks with about a capful and a half (maybe 2 caps max). It goes quick, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.
One thing of note: The handle of the trigger isn't the most durable. -- it's a metal handle underneath, but the plastic will crack and seperate sometimes. It isn't the end of the world, because it doesn't interfere with the use of the product, but just something I noticed.

Product Pros: ability to pre-soak the car and loosen up dirt, dust, road grime
Product Cons: I may be power hungry! I don't like having to clean/rinse out (worth doing to preserve the product and extend product life), and I have found myself wanting shorter intervals between the soap release. I wish I had done more research because I may have gone with a "cannon style" or pressure washer setup rather than this. I am still happy with the product and use it every wash but tell others interested in the product to come try mine and see if they like it or want more power.

Works Great. Reduces soap consumption. Very easy to use. Really like the removability and adjustability of the suds dispenser.
I've used this foam gun a bunch of times with CG Maxi Suds II and Honeydew Snow Foam. Contrary to what many have said, the directions that come with it say to "fill the bottle with liquid chemical concentrate." DO NOT ADD WATER IN THE BOTTLE. Let the foam gun pull the concentrate up and do the diluting for you. If you dilute the product, it's like diluting it 2x!
If you follow this direction you will get plenty of suds on setting A! (1:128 1oz / gallon) Trust me, you will not blow through your product on setting A. And no, water does not mix with the concentrate inside the bottle. The concentrate stays concentrate.
Hope this helps.

I was disapointed in the performance of this product... the suds made were not that great. perhaps I am not getting a great amount of water pressure to help this product perform well, but I was really hoping that the foam produced would serve as a pre-wash to lift most of the dirt. I have used it 4 times so far, and there is no way that this will replace the 2 bucket method. I would not purchase this product again.
I've used it three times. One capful of CG Citruswash Clear and fill the tank up, setting "E". Runs out right as I finish my Golf. I use "D" (less foam) for my RX350. Works out well. Once you read the how to articles here on DI you'll know you need it. Once you get it, you'll be trying to figure out why it took you so long to get it.
Good foam gun for the money. Agree with other reviews that you need at least 40psi out of outdoor spigots to work effectively. Still experimenting on right amount of shampoo to water to get optimum results. Hint.. use Chemical Guys car washes like Maxi Suds II or Honeydew. They work the best.
Need more water pressure to make it work on my end. But seems like an overall good foam gun. A bit time consuming for a one car set-up.
I was a bit hesitant to purchase this item at first. After using it for even the first time I do not regret the purchase. No the product does not make the same amount or quality of foam as a pressure washer and foam cannon, but there is no dragging out the power washer, checking the oil, putting fuel in and that whole maintenance either. This product makes a more runny foam which is excellent for this time of year with the road saltings. The foam runs off the vehicle and pulls alot of the salt with it.Then I procede with the two bucket wash process.Excellent results.I find best results if I fill the soap container 3/4 full and then add a couple of ounces of soap and assemble unit and shake real good.I used the honeydew soap as well as the CG citrus wash and shine. Both soaps work very well with this unit.I highly recommend this product. Its not a miracle worker but it is a valuable tool for auto and motorcycle maintanance.
Have used it about 6 times now and it is excellent. Disagree that this product is a luxury or a novelty. If you are properly two bucket washing your car, foaming is very important. With the right car shampoo, the foam gun is a key step in softening the grime on your car and lubricating the paint in order to minimize scratches during the washing process.
Made with high quality materials, seals tight, and no clogging issues.

Absolutely love it! Used it for the first time this past weekend in combination with the ReTHICKulous wool wash mitt. Using Optimum car wash I got a lot of foam and the mitt just glided over the paint. The only con so far is that my 3 yr old son wants to wash the car all the time!

The Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun is fun for a novelty, but I haven’t found it strictly necessary yet. The Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun lets you COVER your car in foam and it is fun to use. My first time I made the mistake of putting the shampoo in the canister and then adding water. What I got was foam inside canister, which lasted no time at all. What you want is a solution. Fill up the canister with water, then add the soap, then close it up and mix it. The solution and the gun will make the foam and it is enough for me to wash my whole car with a bit left over.
The Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun is fun, and I recommend it because it works well, but I can’t see ever telling someone they need this to wash their car.

This is the best car wash tool to go along with Adams wash bucket system. I have a 2011 Green SRT Dodge Challenger and want nothing but the best to keep this Muscle car looking great. Dan from Wasilla Alaska
finally pulled the trigger on the gun, and i am not looking back, amazing if you have HP water, just make sure you get the ratio right or the foam will be too thick.

Some like it, some don't The ones who like it seem to over rate it; the ones who don't do not really understand the product. I, myself, don't feel it covers like a foam lance and pressure washer ... but it isn't designed to be. It's 60 bucks compared to double that for the aformentioned setup. It's NOT the "greatest thing since sliced bread", but it works good, makes good suds and made from quality material ... not cheap stuff. So ... don't buy it you're looking for the answer to all your prayers - or to cover like a lance.

Only Way to Wash a Dirty Car!
I really love this tool.
Working in the shade to start, use 1 ounce of CG Citrus Wash & Gloss and a few ounces of water. This is plenty to produce enough suds to do a thorough 2-stage washing. The suds really help to emulsify and loosen the dirt on the vehicle.
STAGE 1: Spray suds on the car, then wait 7 or 8 minutes, and rinse.
STAGE 2: Then, reattach the foam gun and spray suds on the car again and switch over to the two bucket method to complete the washing.
Then final rinse and dry with a quality waffle-weave towel.
Works well, and helps prevent swirling the paint while washing. Highly recommended.

Excellent product.
I always washed by hand; never even thought of using a foam gun. But I saw the reviews here and on the internet and thought I would give it a try. I am very glad I did.
I bought it and figured I would try it out on my filthy Tahoe covered with dirt and road salt after a recent storm in the northeast. I used 1oz of Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss (which is a great product) mixed with 5 ozs of water in the Foamaster container (not sure if that is the best ratio, but worked well for me). I used setting A on the Foamaster (there are multiple settings), connected to the end of my home garden hose, and started spraying. The Foamaster sprayed a nice amount of soapy sudsy solution across my entire Tahoe in next to no time. I had the whole truck pre-soaking in under a minute. Wow.
Now, just to set expectations, the Foamaster when connected to the end of a home garden hose (which is what I did) is not going to be the type of pressurized foam gun that sprays soap on a vehicle that looks like shaving cream, if you know what I mean. But how many cars need that? What the Foamaster does do, and do well, is cover the vehicle with a nice soapy suds solution that hangs on for a while and helps loosen the dirt.
After looking at the Tahoe pre-soaking, and thinking about it, I had one of those aha moments where it became obvious to me that it makes so much sense to pre-soak before hand washing a vehicle, especially a filthy vehicle like I had. The Foamaster makes it so easy to do that pre-soak. When I proceeded to wash (two pail method of course :) ) the dirt came right off - much easier than if I had just hosed off the car with water and then tried to wash it.
I will always have one in my detailing arsenal from now on.
Highly recommended.

Use it to pre soak the car, use a hose to wash it off and then spray the car again before I use my wash-mitt to wash the car. Creates sufficient amounts of suds to cover car. For those looking for a *snow* effect, you need to pair it with a pressure washer. It works well either way though :D
This is a great product that makes washing cars more fun. I also find that I do a better job by using it. I can cover my car with a good amount of suds on the "C" or "D" setting, half an ounce of shampoo, and the rest of the gun filled with water. I think I could get away with using less shampoo if I crank it up to the "E" setting so I think I'll try that for the whole car next time.

Mine gathers dust, because while it sprays out soapy water, it isn't a thick foam like you get from a pressure washer. I used mine on the highest concentration to even be decent. Mine only gets used as a pre-rinse these days if the car is particularly dirty.
Great product! Produces a good amount of foam and is a great alternative for those not wanting to purchase a true Foam Cannon/Lace.
Good product. Used it this morning for the first time. Used it with Poorboys's World Super Slick & Suds. I'll definitely have to order more, soon, as it uses a lot, but that was expected. My only real complain is that while being able to detach the bottle to use the nozzle to finish your wash, the nozzle is pretty lousy. Leaked from the get-go and I really don't care for the spray pattern. That being said, I'll be starting my washes with this from now on (but taking the time to switch out my nozzle.

First Foam Gun I have owned.
Pros: Quality item. Works as advertised if quality soap is used. Breaks down for easy cleaning and storage. Easily attaches and detaches from sprayer and sprayer seems durable.
Cons: Sprayer does not work smoothly when detached from bottle. More water pressure means more/better foam.
Very good item to have. Takes vehicle prewash to another level. With this gun you could in a hurry just have a rinse bucket for the wash mitt and very quickly wash a vehicle. Perfect for a quick soap and rinse after a detail.

Super cool tool!
It doesn't use nearly as much soap as I expected from reading reviews. The super concentrated Chemical Guys soaps go a loooong way in this gun (CWG or CWC). I have a coupe and I always hated wasting soap solution in a bucket. With this gun, I only use as much as I want.
Also on light to medium dust, i just spray the car with foam then spray rinse and pat dry. takes just a few mins longer than a quick detail and it feels much safer (mentally).

Fantastic tool. I use this with 2 ounces of C&G's car wash, two buckets, and a grit guard. All together they provide a fantastic safe wash. Plus its fun to use!
Excellent product. Gets soap working before you hit it with your wash mitt.
I personally love this gun! I pour just enough CG Maxi Suds to cover the bottom of the bottle and fill it half way with water. Then set the mix ratio to 'C' and let 'er rip! Great soapy lather! Actually pretty easy to use and clean which is great! Like AlonzoFTW mentions, it's more of a luxury not a necessity, but buy it if you can! You won't be disappointed!
This is a great product for washing any vehicle, simple to fill easy to use. I'am fully satisfied with the Gilmour foamgun II and would and have recommend it to all that are serious about vehicle care!

This thing is awesome. I wish more information on how the siphon system works was included with the device. FYI, it doesn't mix the chemical (car wash) with water. You must dilute the chemical in the water and then the foamgun siphons from the half gallon reservoir. Lots of bubbles

The Foamaster II claims to spray your entire car down with suds in no time flat as well as break down dirt and grime.
From using this already, yes it does just that.
Pros: Foams and Sprays off dirt [ not completely mind you ] enough to reduce high risk of first wash scratching. The Spray Head comes off easy to rinse the car down and reattaches to the mixing unit just as fast.
Cons: The unit doesn't work well unless you have a good amount of soap in the bottle, this means higher soap consumption. You can put remaining soap back but then again all soap can't be salvaged.
Notice: Water pressure must be above normal to normal to operate Foamaster properly.
Shipping was mediocre.
All in all, this product definitely works but is more of a luxury rather than an actual necessity to a great wash.
