Chemical Guys Black on Black Reviews
Professional Detailer Reviews
Fade 2 Black is used to provide a nice glossy finish and UV protection on all of your plastics, vinyl, rubber, and exterior trim. Specific areas would be in the engine bay where it is wonderful for dressing rubber hoses, plastic exterior trim and bumpers, plastic mirrors, windshield cowling, A/C vents inside the car, and my favorite application which is dressing the wheel wells. Because this 100% VOC compliant product comes in an aerosol spray can, it's also very easy to use for hard to reach places (engine bay, wheel wells).
Customer Reviews
Great product period...non-greasy formula used for wheel wells an engine bay.
Excellent product with great results!
I've bought a bunch of back to black type Aerosols and it really darkens trim. I've used it on Engine bay plastics for fast and efficient dressing as well as black plastic trims, like an entire Volvo XC70 that was greyed. Brings it back to black. Never tried tires.
By far the best I ever used,
Bought an FJ Cruiser. Dealer prep was terrible. Engine bay and under body was covered in dried mud and grease. Used a de-greaser followed up by using this product on engine bay and under body. It looked like I spent hours detailing. So far, so good.
Depends on what I need it for! Definitively is not for plastic surfaces where you need "deep, deep ultra black" appearance.
Has a nice clean satin shine on my engine bay at first application, but I will check back in a month. The can now feels only half full, so the cost of item plus shipping equals very pricey. It had better last a long time and have a greasy to the touch feel on engine parts.
I like this product. Works pretty good.
Amazing results! Used on faded black, 6-year-old Nissan Armada running boards, rear bumper, and grille insert. Results were like new. Now I want to see how long it will last.
Disappointing, not very effective
Mind was blown when I used this on some sunfaded spots on my engine bay (sits under an exposed grill) and the exterior trim on my e46 BMW. Highly recommend. love this stuff. For trim and molding, I was spraying on a towel to be more precise on the application and it worked well.
This stuff works great! Made my engine bay and tires look better than new!
Product worked great on my engine compartment. Detailed most of it with dressing, used this for the hard to reach spots and hoses. Worked beautifully, dried to a shine. Engine looks better than the day I bought the truck.
Awesome results
I've used several products that claim to bring back the "new" look of black plastic and rubber and none lived up to this claim. Black On Black DOES.
I have used a number of different plastic and vinyl restorers with mixed results. Most have lasted less than a month, especially if a hard rain came along while driving, or my car was sitting on a very hot black top parking lot for several days. So, after reading numerous reviews, both professional and enthusiasts, I opted to try Black on Black. I started by thoroughly cleaning the wheel wells and trying it there, figuring that if it didn't last, no big loss. It was extremely easy to use, just spray on. Just be careful not to spray it on painted surfaces. I was very pleased with the results, especially when two days latter had a major storm blow through, which meant a lot of muddy puddles. When the rains passed and I was able to wash the wheel wells out, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they were still a very deep black. The rain, the puddles, the mud nor the cleaning diminished the dark black.
Although others have emphasized how great their engine bays have looked after using Black on Black in there, I have been a little hesitant to try it there after reading the label on the can where it states "Extremely Flammable". But, in the meantime I have used it everywhere else that needed that new look.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to bring that showroom look to their vehicle.

Makes my engine bay look brand new and doesn't attract dust. Great stuff.
Finally I found this product. It makes my engine bay look like it is brand new. I am going to recommend this to my friends.
Excellent product. I use this in conjunction with Aerospace 303 to tone down the glossy look. I use it on my Jeep Wrangler and it gets into all of the nooks and crannies that I wouldn't be able to get into otherwise. On my Cadillac, I use it in the engine bay to keep it looking clean and like new. Long lasting and essential for any car with cladding or additional plastic.
Anything black gets this product, especially my engine bay details and rubber trim moldings and gaskets around the vehicle. I am not a glossy finish fan so I do lightly wipe down to a nice clean satin finish look.
I have bought several different products claiming to "Restore your faded trim!", and they've never worked. So after much research and seeing rave reviews I thought I'd give it a try. It blew my mind! This stuff is incredible. I used it on some extremely faded plastic trim and it turned it back to factory black, but I figured, well once it dries it will fade slightly, but it didn't!
I also love that you have the option of matte or shiny black! For a matte finish, just wipe it down immediately after spraying the area. For a shiny finish, spray it and leave it. This product is amazing and I will always have it in my detailing arsenal! This is just another miraculous product from Chemical Guys!

This is on my short list of products I found and love on Detailed Image. I think Chemical Guys products are great and this is a great example. I got this after continually reading about it being so good and the reviews are true. This works and is amazing.
If you don't have this and are considering buying it, stop wondering, buy it, and start putting it on your ride and the only thing you will regret is not having bought this sooner!

I love this product! It works great for places that is hard to reach, i used it in my engine bay, plastic grill insert in my bumper, splash guards, wheel wells, etc. It goes on super easy, gets great coverage and last a while. Since you can use other protectors on bigger plastic pieces, you only use this on small things like hoses and such so this can lasts a while.
Its amazing to me the difference this product makes. Having the black bits really be black makes them stand out, especially on my older vehicle. Easy to use and effective.
I intentionally waited a month after using this product before posting a review. Lets face it, most of the black plastic restorers don't last more than a week or two and/or wash away after getting rained on. This Chemical Guys product is by far the best I have used and the plastic still looks great after a month. I used it on the lower windshield shroud on my 2008 Honda Element SC, which grayed much faster/worse than the other plastic on the vehicle. It restored it to a nice deep black and matches the rest of the plastic almost perfectly.
Pros: Aerosol application is very easy, and has enough in the can for plenty of applications. Overspray was easy to remove and didn't leave any odd-looking residue.
Suggestion for use: It is a VERY fine mist and must be used inside of a garage. Even a tiny amount of wind will blow it all over the place. It operates like a can of spray paint.

Great for wheel wells and hoses in the engine compartment! I wouldn't use it on my tires. I sold on the Tuff Shine clear coat.
What a great product! I was skeptical at first because I didnt want to harm the paint or glass, but this spray is a clear spray, and any overspray wipes right off. A must have for exterior trim. I used this on my windshield wiper platform, (some got on the wipers, and i realized the wipers look awesome, so I did the wipers too), my side mirrors, exterior trim, and my weatherstripping. This stuff is awesome.
One of the best dressing products I ever used. I've already order several of these and recommended to several friends when they ask me how was I able to restore rubber or areas that are suppose to be black. Will leave a slightly oil finish but you can quickly wipe it down with a microfiber towel to achieve that rich deep black finished. I use 303 aerospace protectant and apply this to finish off all rubber or black plastic pieces for my car restoration project. Finish last longer than Black Wow. If you're looking for tire dressing then I would recommend to go with something else but for all moldings, rubber, or plastic it works great!
I had to check to see why this product wasn't 100% so I read the one review that read no to not buying this product again and I know why. You do not have to wipe you just spray and walk away like it says. Maybe it is an update forumla with the name change but regardless I have used black on black and fade to black and it is MUST have in the detailing supplies and to use with every detail. I have seen results last as long as a few weeks to almost a month before needing to be re-applied. Results vary with weather and other conditions. Awesome stuff DI and CG
I used this on a 200 BMW that had some very faded trim and it really brought the black out. I also used it on some hoses under the hood and the car looks very good.
I'd have to agree with what someone else said - felt like I received a half-empty can...? Stuff does work really well, but I think I'll stick with 303.
Pros: Works as well as any dressing I've found. Has the advantage of being a spray-type dressing. Great for engine bay hoses or tough to reach areas.
Cons: Takes some skills to be able to spread evenly. Have had to spray then wipe to get an even coating.

Used this for the first time today on my wheel wells and a few spots under the hood. It did an excellent job of returning the black plastic to a true black. The only trouble is that because it's aerosol, it's difficult to apply when it's a bit windy.
This product is "ok". Not really thrilled about it. I used on the wheel wells of my wife's CR-V. The can doesn't feel like it was completely full when I took out of the box.
I have used this product many times on my Acura TL and Ford Expedition and it works wonders. Yesterday i tried it on my neighbors 11 year old bass boat that had badly faded trim pieces. I wasnt sure if it would help but they looked brand new!
Had some fading plastic trim pieces. This product worked great. The trim looks like new and it's been holding up great!
makes wheel wells look brand new, have not tested its long term durability but hope it lasts
Nice, nice, nice
Perfect for engine detailing and black grill work. The aerosol spray feature is ideal for these purposes. Works very well in place of 303, or in conjunction with 303. Really restores faded black plastic. Highly recommended.

I'm definitely buying more of this stuff. Works on the body trim, engine bay parts as well as interior (air vents mostly)!!
Great product! I used it on the black trim on my Daily driver Sierra Denali and Wow it brought it back to life. I can't do with out it now.
Detaile Image is a class act.
Thanks Guys!

I really like this stuff. I've used it on my own car and customers cars with great results. Everyone always asks how I got their trim so dark and new looking again. Definitely recommend this to restore any faded plastics and rubbers.
This product was great! I will be purchasing it again when I run out, great for engine bay. Really exposes and shines the black trim/hoses/covers.
Looks wet all day long, but if it does get wet for real, it will fade some. Overall A++++

Wow, what a difference! Used to dress wheel wells....suggest you treat 3, and then go back and look at the untreated well from a distance....the difference is jarring, and you'll run back to finish the 4th wheel well!
Great product! I got it for free with recent promotion but will definitely buy it again.
I used it to dress the door sill trims, hood vent grill and trim underneath the wipers on E46 M3. The look brand new. I tried with small section on the dashboard trim and I think it is too shinny to my taste. I will compare it with 303 aerospace protectant which I just ordered later.

The product shows fabulous results in seconds. Unfortunately, the fade returns in two days if the vehicle is exposed to California sun. I have a car lot with a cute Mini displayed up front. The lower moldings are faded bad, what was once a flat black is now almost white. I followed the instructions, spray and wipe, spray again, wipe again. Two days later, Fade is Back!
This stuff is great. I used it in a detail of a 96 4runner that had some really neglected and faded trim. I gave the fade to black a try and was floored by the results. The trim looked good as new. I showed my wife, and she swore I had just replaced the parts with new ones. This stuff is awesome and has found a permanent spot in my detailing arsenal.
Great product! I used this on my rear diffuser and it brings its true black color back to life and lasts too. Also drys easly so if any dust starts to accumulate a quick brush off will remove it and leave it looking like it did when you first sprayed it. Also bought a bottle for my buddy who has a Chevy Avalanche...he used it on all his black exterior plastic and loved it...wants me to order him 2 more bottles.
I use this for under the hood and wheel wells. Works great and doesn't leave a sticky residue!
Used this on the engine after cleaning and drying, it's been two weeks and looks just as good as day one.
Love it works great in wheel wells
The best thing for the engine bay ever.
Absolutely sensational product. I don't know how I lived without this in my arsenal. What has previously been said is all true...phenomenal to use in the engine compartment on all plastic and rubber. Saves time and energy while giving results that frankly are unattainable with any other product I've used since the spray allows you to reach ALL places.
This stuffs great, I use it for engine bay hoses and wheel wells. Absoutly great!
I use this product to blacken or darken wheel wells. It makes the wheel wells disappear by making them darker. This product is as important to the appearance of the car as anything I use. Bad wheel well appearance can ruin an otherwise well detailed car, but this product helps the wheel wells simply fade out of the picture allowing you to see the tires, rims and the rest of the car.
Great, used it on all trim! Buy it!
This stuff is great!
I used it on my exterior trim as well as my engine bay. Both now look brand new! I even used in on the black metal parts of my windshield wipers with equally great results.

This stuff is incredible. The guy who said he would not buy it again clearly did not try it in the engine bay. I used a simple soap wash in my engine bay, let it dry, and put on this stuff. It looks brand new. the hoses are glossy black and the plastic is a deep, low gloss black that just looks fabulous. It is an absolute atrocity that they do not charge more for this.
This is an amazing product which is very simple to use. I sprayed some into the areas of the engine bay which I could not reach by hand and also on the hoses and other various plastic covers. The results were amazing. Each piece is shiny and looks like it is brand new.
It looks especially good on the hoses. You need to get this product and keep it in your kit.

I have never used a product that was as simple as this one. Absolutely no work except spraying it on. Used it on my wheel wells and the plastic looks brand new again with some great durability. Now I am just looking to see if I can find more uses for this stuff!
Great product. Great for engine bay. Works great
Excellent for detailing engine bay. Works great on all rubber or plastic.
I absolutely love this product! I used it in my engine bay and it completely restored the color to everything! I let the first coat set on for a few minutes, then applied another coat and allowed it to sit a few minutes before wiping it off. It leaves everything with deep color and it is not greasy. I also used it on my wheel wells, hatch seal/trim, side view mirror plastic, windshield wipers, and it really amazed me. I definitely recommend this to anyone!
This is one of the few products that went beyond my expectations. I used it on the black plastic inserts in the grille of my Dodge Magnum. They came out looking like new and have stayed that way for several weeks now. This is great stuff.

I use Fade 2 Black for the wheel wells. Nothing ruins a car's appearance more than off color wheel wells. They now look completely black which sets off the tires, rims and the rest of the car beautifully. I used to get very frustrated with wheel wells not looking right but this stuff took care of that even in direct sunlight. I just ordered 4 more cans.
This product isn't really designed for merely tires. I use it for critical rubber and plastic situations calling for longevity. Consider the plastic cowling under your wipers, the plastic engine components, gas cap area, bumpers. It just doesn't do much to tires in old or poor condition, so don't use it there.

I wasn't impressed with this stuff. Really can't figure out what it does. Sprayed on my tires and nothing special. Would not buy again.
