Hi, I’m new to detailing but have spent many hours/days reading through your site and its been very helpful! I went through the steps of washing my car, claybar, and then applied griot’s one-step sealant and polish that I bought on sale at Advance Auto. I have two questions:
1. I claybared the entire car, but I read that you only need to do the horizontal surfaces. Is this correct? My car is only 2 years old and is in good condition.
2. I also have a bottle of Collinite 845. Can I apply that over GG’s one-step sealant and polish to add an additional layer of protection?
Thank you!
Edwin
Hi Edwin,
Glad you’re enjoying the blog and showing enthusiasm for detailing!
Onto your questions:
1. Definitely not correct! If anything, the vertical/side surfaces get a lot more contamination from road debris thrown up by the tires, etc., so you definitely want to do a clay decontamination on the sides as well as the top surfaces.
2. I have no experience with those two products so hopefully someone else can chime in. Usually the newer sealants can be layered regardless if they’re from the same manufacturer or not, but it’s better to make sure.
Hope that helps and thanks for reading!
Thank you Ivan! I appreciate the great advice. I will definitely clay the side surfaces!
