Scrub Ninjas And Dedicated Leather Cleaner – A Winner And Effective Combination For Perforated Leather
by Rodney TatumThe original Gyeon Leather Cleaner has been a product I have recommended and used with great success. According to Gyeon, there is a MILD version that may be suitable for maintenance cleaning, nappa seats, and semi-aniline leather. I am demonstrating the effectiveness of the STRONG version that is still safe on the (more common) perforated leather seats. Both are considered by Gyeon to be suitable for modern leather seats.
I receive calls about interior detailing from concerned customers who shared stories horror stories of detailers damaging interiors. I am not surprised to hear these stories with the mentality that many detailers and many consumers have, not taking interior detailing as seriously as they should. It is often viewed as something to be done as cheaply and quickly as possible. Customer inquiring, “what kind of products do you use for leather. We had this detailer who used some all-purpose cleaner on our leather seats. It was a nightmare.”
For the record all-purpose cleaners are not inherently bad, they are just a product. The use of it on interiors or even in some cases on leather is not necessarily bad. Keep in mind not every all-purpose cleaner is the same. Not every surface is the same. The skill level and experience with a product must be taken to account. The real issue is the people who swear by using all-purpose cleaners for a majority of tasks that are laser focused on finding the cheapest and fastest solution possible. This also means they are not using the highest quality all-purpose cleaner and or appropriate one at a cautiously conservative dilution. I also often find they are not the type to learn about the surfaces they are working on or the stains they may be trying to remove. I occasionally use all-purpose cleaners for interiors. But there are plenty of dedicated leather and dedicated interior cleaners that work really well, that I rather use. Gyeon Strong Leather Cleaner paired with the scrub ninjas (for agitation) is exceptional for modern perforated leather cleaning.
Although the Gyeon Leather Brush is designed to clean leather with this product, I found the scrub ninjas to be quite a combination with the leather cleaner. The scrub ninjas are great and famous for effective vinyl cleaning (agitation).
I could not (unfortunately) duplicate all of the in action footage of the application, but the process is pretty simple. It is preferred to spray on your scrub ninja, brush, or towel of choice for initial scrubbing action. For heavily soiled leather a case can be made to spray it onto the surface and agitate before removal. I do believe spraying the product on the applicator provides a better experience and can help safeguard against damaging more sensitive leathers often found on certain sports cars, if you decide to not use the mild version.
Splitting the seat into thirds, the soapy section is the area I have visually I mapped out (scrubbing with the scrub ninja). Let the scrub ninja do the work, without applying pressure. The black seat appeared somewhat clean before cleaning. The scrub ninja (via agitation) removed this much grime (shown below) from the seat. You follow up with your favorite clean interior microfiber towel to remove the remaining grime and residue.

That seat looks so good and shiny like it’s brand new.
