Projects | Porsche 918 Spyder | Track Day Maintenance (Part 4)

by

This is the final part of a four-part article series by James Melfi of Auto Nuvo. In this series, James takes a beautiful jet black Porsche 918 Spyder and performs various detailing steps. Everything from inspection, washing, drying, polishing and even clear bra installation will be covered! To view all of the articles in this series click here.

Fast forward 4 months, and we did our first maintenance wash on the Porsche 918. We coated this beast with 22ple’s ZX Mistico Elemento glass coating, see the whole installation process in Part 3.

It was now time for its first check up and get the vehicle looking proper again after a hard track day. Upon initial inspection, the water beading was well–fantastic! Nice, tight beads.  I listed below our process in maintaining this vehicle and ensuring the longevity of the coating. Mistico allows for much easier maintenance cleanings. Wash and drying time is cut in half and you can get back to what you enjoy the most–driving.

  3. James S says:

How do you apply the VS1 final coating? As a spray detailer or using an applicator pad?

    • james melfi says:

We use the two towel method, spray two sprays of VS1 into a high quality microfiber wipe onto surface then flip towel to remove residue. The second towel is used to catch any remaining residue.

  4. David G. says:

Just grabbed myself a bottle of Gyeon Q2 Tire after viewing this post. (Too bad DI doesn’t stock this brand)

Really impressive tire treatment in terms of gloss and water beading.

Thanks for sharing your products list.

Hopefully DI will stock the Gyeon product line down the road.

Really enjoyed reading this post. I live in Mass, but I’m currently deployed and I can’t wait to get back home in a few months and wash my car. These are the kinds of articles that have a way of reminding me how awesome life is back in the USA. Cheers!

  6. Ron Ayotte says:
