Sandy devastated a lot of the North East but luckily the Albany, NY area was spared from much of it. Despite our area not being hit too hard the airports closed for almost two days straight. After waiting for almost two days with several cancellations we finally made it to SEMA 2012 on Wednesday.
I had read the stat that this years show would take up roughly 2.2 million square feet of floor space and yet it still seems far larger somehow. There is a certain energy you can feel as soon as you enter the room. Even if you have a good plan of what you think you are going to do, and when you’re going to do it, the show has a way of dictating things to you. as one great conversation and booth leads to another. Every company here knows this is probably the world’s largest stage to open doors to new opportunities. This is where you come to make a statement that you’re an industry leader and make an impact on the market. You see virtually every person at every booth working hard to maximize their time and engage customers. Elaborate booth set ups have huge TVs, giveaways, beautiful cars and beautiful girls fighting for your attention. If you love any aspect of automobiles this is the certainly the place to be!
I didn’t come here with intentions to buy much personally because I have so many different professional obligations but it is tempting. I feel the desire to spring for new wheels, add a sub woofer, more tint, performance upgrades and so much more. My mind says yes but my wallet and probably my girlfriend disagree. This is a dangerous place for anyone who acts on impulse…which fits the whole Vegas theme. More updates to come!
