Lessons Learned from Building Business Exposure: Past and Present
by Rodney TatumThere are so many different ways to help your business gain exposure, but I can start here. Clothing and having an optically pleasing business card, even in 2024, plays a role in your brand. Dressing presentably and still using business cards in 2024!
QR codes have also been a welcome addition for my new business cards. I definitely did not pick the cheapest card option as I want to send a message every chance I get to take me seriously. I wanted my local community to know who I am. Reach out to people/businesses that run an operation that is not quite like mine. It might even be wise to consider joining your local city Chamber Of Commerce for networking opportunities.
Although I have frequented mechanic shops, window tinting shops, and connected with fellow detailing business owners perhaps more than most, I can look back and say I could have done even more. I could particularly have put in more work to explore and inquire how I could contribute to their betterment. I suggest you adopt that mentality. I have asked for business cards from others more than I asked them to share mine. I have gone to car events making myself visible to people more likely to appreciate my services. I have been willing to offer advice (teaching) versus just selling my services.
Have that pocket light ready!
Sponsorship’s and charities are opportunities to not only give back to your community, but to also make a visible impression on your community. You can make a deeper impression on the public through service versus merely communicating your services.
Also know what you are talking about. I talked with manufacturers and professionals in the industry not just to reaffirm what I already knew, I wanted to explain it to potential customers in a way that inspires TRUST.
My last piece of advice involves finding your ideal consumer of detailing services. If you are running paid advertisements or even general unpaid marketing of your business, you need to have a somewhat narrow target in mind of people who would be interested in what you offer. You may want to book more multiple step paint correction and ceramic coating services, for example. If you run paid/unpaid advertisements to a majority of people with trashed (figuratively and literally) cars and limited spending ability, you are not going to be successful.
