How To Extend the Life of your Air Freshener
by Reece @ DIKeeping your car smelling fresh can enhance your driving experience, but constantly replacing or spraying your air fresheners can become a costly and tedious task. Fortunately, there are several strategies you can employ to extend the lifespan of your car air freshener, ensuring a longer-lasting and more economical solution. Check these out below and find out how to extend the life of your air freshener!
- Proper Application: Ensure you are using your air freshener correctly by spraying it in the appropriate amount as listed by the manufacturer. Spraying too much at one time can cause an air freshener to dissipate quickly.
- Targeted Spraying: Direct the spray towards the interior fabrics of the car rather than into the air. Fabrics can hold the scent longer than just the air.
- Sponge Trick: This trick is something I have learned from the old Squash air fresheners we carried in the past. You can take a container (i.e. Clay Bar Storage Container) and a piece of a sponge (i.e Tuf Shine Applicator Sponge). Poke a few holes in the top of the container and soak the sponge in the air freshener. Put the sponge in the container and store under your seat. This helps the scent slowly dissipate throughout the vehicle over time, allowing the smell to last longer.
- Ventilation: Before spraying, turn on your vehicles ventilation system and set it to recirculate. This helps distribute the scent throughout the car and allows it to linger longer.
- Frequency: Instead of spraying every time you get in the car, try to limit it to once every few days or as needed. This prevents you from becoming accustomed to the scent too quickly, making it seem like it’s fading faster than it actually is.
- Storage: Keep the air freshener in a cool (not cold), dark place when not in use. Room temperature is best as exposure to heat, cold, and sunlight can cause it to degrade more quickly.
- Rotate Scents: If you are using multiple air fresheners, rotate them periodically. Your sense of smell can become desensitized to a particular scent if exposed to it for too long, so switching it up can help keep all of your scents smelling better, for longer.
- Cleanliness: Regularly clean your vehicles interior to remove any odors that the air freshener is trying to mask. A clean interior will help you smell the scent, not any other scents.
- Quality Product: Invest in a high-quality air freshener with a long-lasting fragrance. While these might be slightly more expensive, they often provide better longevity and effectiveness. Some of our favorites include Oberk Squash and P&S Coconut Lime. You can find all of the air fresheners we carry by clicking here.
By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can maximize the lifespan of your air freshener and keep your car smelling fresh for longer periods of time!
