Gtechniq Marine: SeaDoo Decontamination
by Reece @ DIOwning a SeaDoo GTI SE has been a thrilling experience, offering exhilarating rides and endless fun on the water. However, maintaining its pristine condition requires regular care and attention, especially when it comes to decontamination. Whether you’re prepping your watercraft for a new season or just giving it a fresh look, using high-quality marine products can make a significant difference. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to effectively decontaminate your SeaDoo GTI SE using Gtechniq Marine products, ensuring it remains in top-notch condition for every adventure.
Why Decontamination Matters
Over time, your watercraft can accumulate various contaminants such as salt deposits, algae, grime, and pollutants. These cannot only affect its appearance but also impact its performance and longevity. Proper decontamination helps in maintaining the aesthetic appeal, functionality, and overall value of your watercraft. Take a look at some of the before photos of the surface after a few rides.
As you can see, minerals, water spots, dirt, grime, etc are left on the surface. From here, I recommend reaching for Gtechniq Marine Products. This line of products has everything you need to care for your watercraft and if you have reached for their automotive lineup, you know the quality will be extremely high.
Step-by-Step Decontamination Process
1. Rinse Thoroughly
Start by rinsing to remove any loose dirt and debris. This step is crucial in reducing contamination for a safe wash process.
2. Heavy Decon
After the initial rinse, it’s time to clean the hull and other surfaces. I reached for the Gtechniq Citrus APC and the Rust Stain Remover. These are two of your best options for targeting production mold release agents, transportation grime, dealer lot fallout, etc. During use I found that the Rust Stain Remover was not really needed in this situation, so I continued with the Citrus APC. This product is fantastic as the formulation is gentle yet strong, ensuring that your surfaces are clean without causing any damage.
3. Gentle Wash
Once you have removed the heavy contamination, it is time for a gentle Wash to not only remove loosened dirt and grime, but to also remove any oils or excess APC that is left on the surface after your rinse. The Gtechniq Marine UV Wash paired with the WM2 Microfibre Wash Mitt. This marine UV hull cleaner has been specifically formulated with what Gtechniq refers to as liquid hydroxyphenyl-triazine (HPT). This provides you with UV absorbers and aquatic safe surfactants (100% biodegradable formula) that break the bond between the dirt film and the surface. Just add 8 caps of shampoo to a 5 gallon wash bucket, dunk your mitt, and work section by section. This shampoo foamed up slightly, but was extremely slick which made cleaning a breeze. Once you are finished, rinse your watercraft thoroughly and you can jump right into your drying process.
4. Dry
After your decontamination and washing process, give your SeaDoo a final rinse to remove any residue and ensure everything is clean. Dry the watercraft with a soft, clean drying towel to prevent water spots and streaks.
Tips for Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: To keep your watercraft in top condition, perform regular cleanings and decontaminations. This is also incredibly important if you are travailing to different water sources. Aquatic invasive species from one waterbody can easily jump to another from your watercraft unless it has been properly cleaned, dried, or disinfected after use.
- Storage: Store your watercraft in a covered or shaded area to reduce exposure to harsh elements.
- Inspect: Regularly inspect your watercraft for any signs of dirt, grime, aquatic species, etc.
Conclusion
Decontaminating your watercraft with Gtechniq Marine products is a great way to keep it looking and performing like new. By following these steps and using high-quality marine care products, you will ensure that your watercraft remains in excellent condition and keeps invasive aquatic species at bay. Remember, a well-maintained watercraft not only looks impressive but also performs at its best, giving you more reasons to hit the water with confidence!
