Down and Dirty Car Detailing: 1969 Camaro RS
by Jean-Claude CorcoranIn my line of work, my staff and I get to work on a lot of pretty physically clean cars that need maybe paint correction, protective coatings and maybe some kind of clear bra protection. It used to be that I only ever worked on incredibly dirty cars that all needed serious car detailing services in the Atlanta area. This 1969 Camaro RS visited us more than a year ago to get one of those serious car detailing services I was just talking about. They were not expecting perfection from the paint correction and they understood that there was some damage that was beyond repair. But, in the end, they wanted a thoroughly detailed car inside and out with pretty paint. After a phone call and then the in-person consultation, we had the solution figured out.
The 1969 Camaro RS was a recently made restomod car. The shame was the shop that built it cut some corners in the detailing department. It was our job to have it feel clean again.
The owner opted for an entry-level paint correction service, thorough car detailing and then the paint capped off with Swissvax Crystal Rock. At Detailed Designs Auto Spa, we know that not everyone is looking for an 80 hour restoration project. This is why we place so much value on our in-person consultations. Professionals taking the time to understand the owner’s needs makes a recipe for success in taking care of their clients!
As you’ll see, there was much to be physically cleaned, including some nooks and crannies. Interior vinyl surfaces were in dire need to be thoroughly cleaned and then conditioned. Paint was faded, super swirled and rough to the touch.
Before you go further, I’d like to say thanks for taking the time to view our article and I hope you enjoy!
When she arrived. Anything look out of place?
Oh yeah! This is pretty much how the whole car looked…
A bit dirty.
….everywhere…
Let’s begin to improve the paint with a budget in mind!
You can see the original interior vinyl come to life with a proper cleaning and conditioning of the surface.
Remember the filthy door hardware earlier? It took some time, but the years of junk build up were properly detailed.
After the detailing service, paint correction, interior detail and wax application she looked beautiful again!

Nice Jean Claude, great article highlighting an area of detailing that is often overlooked, high quality budget minded services surrounding around significant improvement not perfection. huge difference and I’m sure the client was thrilled!
Thanks James. I agree. We like to highlight the huge projects but these make up some portion of our business and many make great turnarounds while on a budget.

Great work Jean-Claude. The attention you gave to the “hinge area” shows your dedication.
Thank you so much Steve. You mentioning that makes me think that it would be nice to share our technique on how to do this with folks. We have our next idea for an article. Thanks!

Hey,
I am in Augusta, Ga. How cold must it be to NOT Machine buffer a car? That Camaro job is a thing of beauty.
Should less abraisive pads used in colder weather like white, black or blue? I have a Porter buffer if it matters.
Thanx,
Al
