Dodo Juice Born Slippy Product Review
by Todd CooperiderWhen I was first asked to test the new Born Slippy clay lube from Dodo Juice, I thought for sure that I would find a re-packaged lube that was very similar to many other products out there on the market. As always though, I went into the Born Slippy evaluation with an open mind because you never know when you might learn something new.
When I conduct most of my product tests, I usually need to work with the product for some time to really get some good experience with it and learn its intricacies before I can write a review.
Born Slippy is a concentrated solution, and Dodo Juice recommends mixing it with water at a 10:1 ratio. This equates to a total of 2.5 liters (about 85 ounces) of clay lubricant, so it turns out to be very economical indeed. Score one for Born Slippy. I grabbed an empty spray bottle, mixed it at the prescribed ratio, and proceeded with my test.
When I’m using a clay lube, first and foremost I want something that provides plenty of lubrication to allow the clay to gently glide across the surface without marring the finish. Secondly I want a product that doesn’t leave a slick residue where I feel the need to wash the car again afterwards. Finally I want a lube that wipes off easily without a lot of drama.
How did the Dodo Juice Born Slippy stack up to test? Not only did it pass all of the tests, but it excelled in every aspect. It provided a super slick surface without leaving a “slick residue”, and it wiped off effortlessly without leaving a trace. The surface was left feeling clean and smooth…nothing more, nothing less. And the fact that it is so concentrated that one small bottle makes 85 ounces of solution is a big bonus. I’m always looking to stretch the detailing dollar!
So I discovered that it is far from being just another clay lube. Some products are great lubricants, but leave behind a residue. Some don’t leave a residue, but they’re not very slick. Some are good, but aren’t cost effective. Born Slippy simply developed a product that meets all the needs where others may fail.
Remember when I said that I normally need to work with a new product for a while before I could make a proper evaluation? With the Born Slippy I wasn’t halfway through the first car when I stopped what I was doing and sent in a text message to DI saying that I just found my new favorite clay lube! I truly like the product that much.

hi todd in your own personal opinion which clay lube do you like more dodojuice born slippy or the optimum instant detailer and gloss enhancer
As a clay lube I prefer the Dodo Juice because that’s what it’s intended for. It leaves a clean finish afterwards, and I can go directly to polishing without having to clean off any slick residue.
Thanks,
Todd
Todd, did you dilute it with distilled water or tap water?
