What is ChatGPT? In its own description, ChatGPT is:
an AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer) language model. It uses deep learning techniques to generate human-like responses to text inputs in a conversational manner.
ChatGPT has been the talk of various businesses, oil giants, and tech companies to help simplify daily tasks such as emails, product descriptions and more. Students, schools, and higher education colleges or universities have mentioned ChatGPT due to concerns over essay generation. Even hackers have started to use this to help write malicious code.
Simply put, ChatGPT is an chatbot developed by San Francisco-based startup OpenAI. OpenAI was co-founded in 2015 by Elon Musk and Sam Altman and is backed by various investors, most notably Microsoft. This tool allows users to enter written prompts and receive written information back. The crazy part here though is that the return text to your question or prompt is so human-like that you will forget that AI put it all together for you in seconds. This is due to it being powered by a large language model, or LLM, meaning that it is programmed to understand human language and generate responses based on large amounts of data. It will scour the web for information to power the reply, along with viewing earlier messages and responses to better form later replies.
We spent some time asking it every day questions like, “how do you make a hard boiled egg?” or “who won the super bowl in 2011?” and the reply was pretty standard and correct. However, how would ChatGPT fair when asking it a detailing question or to help us with a step in the detailing process? Let’s find out!
Q:
Write an article on washing your car using the two bucket method.
A:
Washing your car is an important part of car maintenance and care, as it helps to protect the paint from contaminants and prevent damage from exposure to the elements. One of the most effective and efficient methods for washing your car is the two-bucket method. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to wash your car using the two-bucket method.
Materials Needed:
- Two 5-gallon buckets
- Car wash soap
- Microfiber towels
- Grit guard inserts for buckets
- Hose or pressure washer
Step 1: Fill one of the buckets with soapy water.
Fill the other bucket with clean water. Add a grit guard insert to the bottom of each bucket to help prevent dirt and grime from being reintroduced to your wash mitt.Step 2: Rinse off your car.
Before you begin washing your car, rinse it off with a hose or pressure washer to remove any loose dirt and debris.Step 3: Wash your car in sections.
Start by washing one section at a time, starting from the top of the car and working your way down. Dip your wash mitt in the soapy water, wash the section, and then rinse the mitt in the clean water before dipping it back in the soapy water. This helps to remove any dirt and grime from the mitt before it can scratch your paint.Step 4: Use a second bucket of clean water.
After washing a section, rinse your wash mitt in the clean water to remove any soap suds. This helps to ensure that your car is being cleaned with fresh, soap-free water and helps to prevent streaks from forming on your paint.Step 5: Dry your car.
After you’ve washed your entire car, dry it off with microfiber towels. This helps to prevent water spots from forming on your paint and ensures that your car has a smooth, streak-free finish. The two-bucket method is an effective and efficient way to wash your car, as it helps to prevent dirt and grime from being reintroduced to your wash mitt and prevents scratches from occurring. By following these steps, you’ll be able to keep your car looking its best and protect its paint from damage.
Overall, ChatGPT provided a very solid breakdown on how to perform a two bucket wash process, but there are some negatives that we can point out.
I do not like the line, “Washing your car is an important part of car maintenance and care, as it helps to protect the paint from contaminants and prevent damage from exposure to the elements.” While washing is very important, traditional washing does not protect your vehicle or aid in damage prevention. It helps you safely remove dirt and grime and when done right, it can stop wash induced marring, but overall this process is for cleaning thoroughly so you can protect later or with a combination wash and protect product.
In step four, “After washing a section, rinse your wash mitt in the clean water to remove any soap suds. This helps to ensure that your car is being cleaned with fresh, soap-free water and helps to prevent streaks from forming on your paint.” While this is somewhat correct, you do want to re-introduce your wash mitt into the soapy bucket so that your mitt has shampoo within it. The shampoo is imperative as it will help break down and encapsulate dirt and grime for safe removal from the surface of your vehicle.
What really stood out to me is that this reply took a total of 15 seconds and while there are a few small sections I disagree with, the meat and potatoes as some might say are all there. Heck, the reply even has some pretty detailed tips that I always use, such as “Start by washing one section at a time, starting from the top of the car and working your way down.” It is astonishing what this technology can do in such a “human way”. What are your thoughts of the reply or ChatGPT as a whole?
