It’s hard to believe it’s already been 20 years! It all started as a service and small time e-commerce operation ran out of Greg’s basement. To celebrate 20 years we’ll take a trip down memory lane in this post.
Now before we visit the past we have to honor one of our co-founders, the late George Dushsensky. There would be no DI without George and we are sad to say he passed away way too young at 42. Rest in peace George.
Company History
Now most of this is from our About Us page but we’re going to expand on it and make it a visual journey.
Detailed Image was founded in 2004. The business started out of home with very humble beginnings and a lot of “sweat equity”. It began growing very fast and it quickly became a full-time job. We initially did both a professional detailing service and operated our online store, but we later sold the service side of the business to focus exclusively on e-commerce.
In 2006 we formed Pure Adapt, Inc to be a parent company to Detailed Image and our other ventures.
In 2008 we moved the business to a 5,300 sq ft warehouse in Guilderland, NY to accommodate our growing inventory. We’re continually improving upon the efficiency of our warehouse operations to ensure that every order is shipped quickly, accurately, and safely.
With our first warehouse there were a lot of firsts that came out of it. It started with one row of products and lots of Poorboy’s World products. What became our office was this super outdated long rectangular room with a pop up window to the warehouse. The main entrance went through this room as well. We painted over the wood paneling, laid laminate roll flooring, and used folding tables as our desks with inefficient oil heating.
In 2010 we launched our Ask A Pro Blog, a community of some of the best detailers in the US who write about their top quality detail work, how to guides, product reviews and much more. This rare collection of in-depth articles can quickly help a novice detailer get outstanding results. At the time of this post we have 1,850 published on the blog!
In 2012 we started our first DI Detailing day! At this time there was a trend that every day was some kind of day or holiday and we’re like why don’t we start our own holiday. That’s where Detailing Day came from, strategically selected as the weekend before Memorial Day to have your ride ready for summer! See our first announcement of Detailing Day!
In 2013 we launched our redesigned website to provide you with a superior shopping experience. The site now looks better and functions more efficiently, whether you’re on your computer, phone, or tablet, saving you time and money. See how the website has changed over the years and this update is still the backbone of the current design.
Now we’re at our 10 year mark in 2014. At this point we have a few employees on the team and glad to say they are all still working with us today, check out our DI picture day!
Here is Greg and I at SEMA Show 2014. SEMA has become a regular thing to stay on top of all the new detailing product releases. We’ve seen detailing grow from this small part of the South Hall to have a much larger presence these days!
In 2016 we expanded and upgraded our warehouse. Our facility grew to approximately 10,000 sq ft to include a new office, conference room, break room, more space for inventory, and an improved workflow that is helping us ship your orders even faster.
In 2019 and again in 2021 we expanded and upgraded our warehouse to accommodate our growing product selection. Our total space is now over 22,000 sq ft! Get an inside look of our warehouse in the The Rag Company warehouse tour video below and more in The Rag Company Visits DI post.
From 2015-2019 Pure Adapt was named to the Inc. 5000, a list of the fastest-growing private companies in America! According to Inc., only 4% of companies make the list five times!
From 2016-2019 we were also named to the Albany Business Review’s list of the Fastest-Growing Companies in the Albany region. In addition, the Albany Business Review named us one of the Best Places to Work in the Albany area!

In 2023 we cohosted a meet and greet with The Rag Company at the Saratoga Auto Museum in our neck of woods of upstate NY. It was so great to meet some of our local customers in person.
