Ask a Pro Detailer

Consumer Confusion On Vehicle Protection

Due to the number of emails I’ve been getting in my area alone, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one with the issue. Many have been contacting me in regards to a service and they are all asking the same question,

Whats the difference between this coating, that coating and the other coatings?

Vehicle protection is vastly improving in detailing. It’s really a wonderful thing! However, the everyday customers are really unsure in which way to go with it. They do research looking into this product and that product, and they still have questions. Mostly it’s because they’re so many different options for them to choose from. “Whats best for my car?” is a common questions and I can’t say I blame them. 50 miles in one direction has someone using one product, while 50 miles in the other direction has another using something else. Not only that, they both stand behind them in saying what they are using is the best!

I believe our consumers who seek “the better than average” detail are in for a few years of confusion due to this, and that’s okay! I believe us as detailers have really gotten off on the wonderful advancements in the last few years. Everything that makes our jobs easier and protects longer has really been the name of the game for your detailing professional and because of it, many customers are left in the dust in not understanding where all this is coming from. We love this industry, we love making our customers happy and we love making ourselves happy while doing it!

Now, lets get back on topic. Where does all this lead to the customers way of thinking? Details, plus up charges, longer lasting protection, even I’m confused! Lets face it, the average Joe doesn’t spend the amount of time detailers do in understanding a product. They go by what they read and what we tell them for the most part. Then they consider doing a fancy coating number to their car and find a hundred and one options.

At the end of the day, the real answer is … the prep work that went into it and the person applying the coating. I’m sure many of the guys out there that have vast knowledge and extensive use of the coating they offer have no issues. The customer will be happy with the results and the products intentions for long term durability. A proper work environment and a history of happy customers will be the guy to go to, however choosing the product and THEN choosing the detailer is not always the case. What should always happen is choosing the right detailer first! This is going to make or break the coating of choice and with any coating, the product is only as good as the guy who is using it.

As to many of the emails I get, I always reply the same way. To sum it up, choose the right installer and your vehicle will be above satisfactory!

I know by me writing this it is not going to change the way things are and I hope you guys still love me anyways! But I’m saying it because it needs to be said, it’s like the unspoken truth and mostly because the consumers deserve more truth. If it helps any detailing companies out, great!

I would like to hear some responses on this and if many others are getting the same repeated question.

Thanks for reading!

Kindly,

Brian
