C7 Corvette Z06 – Paint Correction, Clear Bra Wrap, Modesta Coating & More [Part 2]

by

In part 1 we saw the prep work leading up the body being corrected, protected and enhanced. Part 2 picks up at the wheel coating and finalizing the c7 z06 for the owner to enjoy:

The Z06 wheels are removed for complete cleaning and decontamination in preparation for Modesta BC-06 on the wheels and calipers. After coating, we cured the coating with our Krauss InfraRed Curing lamp. Currently, we are the only shop in the United States with this amazing IR lamp. It has an onboard computer that can be instructed to run programs and measure surface temperatures so that it keeps the curing process precise and within very specific conditions. This ensure optimal curing without risk of damage to clear bra or substrates.

The Z06 was reassembled in preparation for being coated.

Application of Modesta BC-05 paint coating on the exterior and then cured with our Krauss IR lamp.

When we speak of buttoned up, this is what we mean! A full body tear down clear bra wrap, paint correction, Modesta BC-05 on the body, Modesta BC-06 on the wheels and calipers, the interior leather coated and exterior glass treated with a hydrophobic coating! Clear bra wrap that is as stealth to see as it gets. To show that, we’ve documented many areas that would otherwise show edges.

  2. Dave says:

WOW. Exceptional craftsmanship. And a great car to boot. Congrats.

  3. John says:

All I can say is this is simply amazing. Top notch looking job on a top notch car.

  4. Shawn Sullivan says:

WOW!!! We have nothing like you in Scottsdale, AZ. It really makes me sad as none of our local detailers I’ve come across have your attention to detail…maybe you should move ;)))

    • I’ve traveled to Scottsdale twice in my life and absolutely adored it. Sedona was amazing as well. It left enough of an impact that we named one of our lovely GSD’s Sedona. And…the grand canyon, it left me speechless….I LOVE Arizona!

We do travel on a limited basis to address client’s needs. Next week we travel to Utah to train a few guys on clear bra as well as remove a full body ppf wrap from a Porsche 918 Spyder(possibly more 918’s and a LaFerrari later) and then rewrap it with one of our quality clear bra wraps. Then San Diego later in the month for training someone else on clear bra. Travel for work is fun for about 1 week and it gets old as I am a family man and miss my wife and kids.

    • Thank you for the compliment, by the way. 😀

  5. James says:

Amazing work Jean Claude. Not a bad stable either – Aston Martin, GT3, RS5, the CLS 63 AMG and the Z06. Not terrible at all.

  6. Steve K says:

Wow Jean-Claude….talk about attention to detail! Thank you for sharing this project with us.

  7. Jonathan says:

Thus looks incredible. Could you send me a private email of a detailed discription of what something like this would cost for a pontiac g8 gt? I would be interested in a paint correction, clear bra wrap and the modesta as detailed above. Just to kind of establish where the car is at, it is sitting at 83k miles so it would require some Work.

  8. ernie cox, jr says:

The coating u put on these fantastic cars looks gr8. The shine on the corvette looks better than new. My question is will that shine, n up like paint jobs with swirls and how long will that shine last. happy coating

    • Jean-Claude says:

      Ernie,

Thank you for the compliment. The longevity of the shine will be commensurate with the level of care it receives. If neglected, nothing looks good long. If cared for, it can last many years.

  9. Ray Scott says:

Awesome work and an awesome vehicle. My favorite car in the world and it’s a Chevy!!!

  10. Rusty says:

As the owner of this car I can tell you the quality of work Jean-Claude put into this project was above all expectations. Worth every penny and then some!!

  11. Steve Webb says:

    Awesome job as always JC!!

My question is related to a question Ernie asked about longevity.

I have a two+ year old P85 with a pearl white muti-coat finish that was wrapped when new by the previous owner with a full Xpel wrap. (unfortunately after looking at your work was applied less than perfectly)
This issue is the wrap is looking dull and lifeless with discoloration along the seams due to dirt build up

I have tried to take good care of the wrap with a weekly foam bath, (I also applied Cquartz coating a few months back) it continues to get a weekly sometimes twice weekly foam bath, with once a month Xpel cleaner and protection spray.
I have tried claying the whole car followed by Dojo Pre-Wax Cleanser, Klasse All in one and Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze that I applied and removed mechanically, but still did not get that transparency and gloss that I expected.

Would it help to use an abrasive wax cleaner or even an correction compound such as Meguiar’s DA Microfiber Correction Compound on the vinyl?

After nearly 3 years do I just need to bite the bullet and remove the wrap or is there something you would suggest trying to
    1) Remove the build up along the seams
    2) Give the wrap some gloss and transparency?.

    Thanks
    Steve

    • Steve,

      Thank you for the compliment.

Debris along seams, if bad enough, can be trimmed back 1/32-1/8 of an inch if you wish to keep the current installation. Yes, you will lose some coverage but if you feel that you can still be happy with losing just a small amount of film off specific edges, an expert film installer can address that for you.

Maybe using a fine polish on a light cutting pad will give you the desired results? The topcoat of the film is porous and if it was coated before being cleaned, you will have essentially locked the dirty pores into place.

Unfortunately, white cars have it the worst when it comes to clear bra protection showing its age. All film ages and all edges eventually get debris built up. Maximum wrapping will greatly help the edge exposure but inevitably, you will have exposed edges at some rate. Coating a clear bra job when new will assist in keeping it nicer looking for longer.

I can’t in good conscience tell you that you should replace the film yet. It would be up to you to weigh how bad the looks bother you Steve. You better understand your potential budget restraints and desires to have this fixed or not far better than I can.

I hope this helps answer your question and I wish you the best in finding a quality solution Steve.

  12. Mark Simcoe says:

WOW. What an amazing job you guys did on that Vette. That thing is just gorgeous. In addition to everything else the wrap job seems perfect. No seams showing at all. I’ve never seen anything like that. I bet the owner is just ecstatic with the results.

    • Jean-Claude says:

Thanks for the compliment Mark. I can’t say that there is not a single seam showing but I can say that we’ve got it down to as few as is reasonably possible!

Again, thanks for the comment and taking the time to read our articles!

  13. Steve Webb says:

    “It would be up to you to weigh how bad the looks bother you”… ..It was annoying but I could live with it………….. until I saw the finish you achieved on this Vette …….now it bothers me (-;

I will give your advice a try (as soon as its dips below 96 degrees in Fort Lauderdale)
