When reaching for a microfiber towel there are many things to take into account. Are you looking for a short nap or long nap? What about the blend or the country of origin. Suede or microfiber edge? Maybe a nice towel without any edges. The combinations here are endless and can really change the way your towel reacts during use or change which towel you are reaching for during any given detailing step. With all these features listed, there is one large one I almost forgot to mention … GSM!
The Detailing Dictionary defines GSM as, “Grams per square meter; A measurement of weight for microfiber towels to add standardization.” This number provides you with a number to help you choose a towel that works best for any detailing step. But what does that number really mean? Is a higher GSM better or can GSM be a misleading variable? Check out the video below from Autofiber and Microfiber University and lets deep dive into GSM!
